“What I really have to say: if there was any problems, even at 2 o’clock in the morning - bwe always had a solution!”
Large quantities of fermentation residue mean: providing a lot of storage space or having the excess collected at great expense. Our customer Udo Oltmann found: There must be a third way - and opted for a drying system. The purpose of this is twofold, on the one hand reducing the volume of fermentation residue, on the other hand significantly increasing the fertilising value of the food fermentation residues. bwe installed a fermentation residue dryer that is capable of doing both.
Udo Oltmann operates in Großenkneten, in the district of Oldenburg, a disposal system for the treatment of biological waste. With an annual throughput capacity of 6200 tons, above all the vegetable and fruit waste that is delivered is recycled.
Reduced quantities of fermentation residues increase storage capacity
In order to kill harmful germs, food waste must be sanitised respectively pasteurised. Only then does this waste count as fertiliser and can be spread on fields.
The bwe drying system has the function of withdrawing water from the fermented material. As a result of the thickening the volume of the fermentations residue is significantly reduced; and the store fills up more slowly.
Heating and drying with CHP heat
The drying system is fed solely with the excess heat from the combined heat and power plant, which, at the same time, also heats our customer’s house and stalls. bwe took care of the connection and the controller.
With a capacity of 550 to 600 kWth the CHP generates enough heat that half of it heats the buildings and the other half supplies the drying system.
